Jan Shapiro, RN, BSN  Certified Reflexologist

'It's been 18 years since my first REFLEXOLOGY appointment with Jan.  I continue to find her to be the most therapeutic healing practitioner I have experienced.  She integrates a background in allopathic (Western) health care with many years of study and experience in holistic modalities.  Her greatest gift is her caring and intuitive connection with the needs of her clients.

Most outstanding among our many sessions were the ones we did several years ago when I broke my foot (5th metatarsal).  My orthopedic consults were quite clear that I would require surgery.  Instead, I used a magnetic bone stimulator and did frequent reflexology work with Jan...three months later, the bone was healed.
I've also introduced many friends to reflexology by giving gift certificates for an appointment with Jan.'

What is Reflexology?

Have you ever seen drawings of the feet with little 'maps' on them?
(scroll down)
As above, so below.
Containing 7200 nerve endings each, the feet are a map to that which lies above, the body. Foot reflexology is gentle, systematic stimulation of points, or 'reflexes' on the feet to affect the corresponding body part.

Reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years in Egypt, China, and India. It is a non-invasive way to experience effects similar to that of a full body massage, without having to remove your clothes. Perfect for those who do not like to be 'touched', as well as those who love it.  Ticklish feet?  No problem.

What to expect:

Everyone's experience during reflexology sessions is different.  Most people report deep relaxation.  Some feel tingling or heat as energy 'blockages' are released.  You will lie on a comfortable massage table, fully clothed.  Jan generally starts by assessing and balancing the energy 'field' around your head, doing some gentle head 'holds', then assessing the energy field down the body, ending up at the feet.  From there, she relaxes/massages each foot prior to starting the actual reflexology.  YOU are in control of the session:  More pressure, less pressure, it is up to you. Reflexology is nurturing, relaxing, and does not need to hurt to be effective.
